Navigate Communities hopes to help meet the need for more affordable housing options.
A number of working families cannot afford to buy a home, let alone be able to afford one close to where they work. This makes for long commutes, less family time, and less living.
We at Navigate Communities want to raise awareness about housing affordability, livability and healthy family lifestyles. One component of this is housing for Working Families, sometimes referred to as “workforce housing.”
Workforce Housing
The National Association of Realtors defines “workforce housing” as “housing that is affordable to workers and close to their jobs. It is homeownership, as well as rental housing, that can be reasonably afforded by a moderate to middle income, critical workforce and located in acceptable proximity to workforce centers.”
Advocacy
As an advocate for Housing Affordability for All, we are raising awareness and starting the conversation here in Birmingham, Alabama around the need for Workforce Housing. We want to hear from YOU. What are your thoughts on housing for Working Families in the Birmingham-Hoover MSA? Please take part in our Forums.
